Retrospect Prof. 6.5 & Error 530

I'm an amateur. But, while I've previously had no problem using 6.5 pro on my Maxtor with a total of 3 "client" pc's operating on XP, for about 10 days I've gotten Error 530, preventing backups of the clients. Since its pretty much comtemporaneous with Windows recent security patch, I'm wondering whether the problem's related to the patch. I also use McAffee (as a freebe offered by AOL), but that's not previously created any problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
