dean_truax
I am having a problem with Retrospect Single Server 6.5 with a Plextor 712A DVD±RW based backup. Sometimes it works fine, other times I get the following error message: Retrospect cannot use : Plextor DVD RW, ID 1:1 because it does not have a drive letter assigned. To use the drive, quit and relaunch Retrospect after you assign a drive letter to your drive. The problem is of course that it does have a drive letter and can be seen fine in Windows Explorer/My Computer. The system is a clone box, Pentium III 667/512MB RAM. natew
Hi does the error happen when there is no media in the drive when Retrospect is launched? What other burning software is installed on the machine? Thanks Nate
dean_truax
I followed all the instructions on KB article 6287 by removing all other burning programs; I did have Nero Express & CDBurnerXP installed, but the document said to remove them. Also, it was also a slave; I changed it to master as per the article which worked fine the first time, but seemingly not after a logout/login. My client physically logs into the server as they use it as a workstation as well, and it seems that this error comes up after she has logged in. I also have Retrospect running as a service using Administrator credentials, so the currently logged-in user should be immaterial. Any ideas, folks? I'm probably going to contact Dantz support since this has been going on for far too long. edit: It doesn't seem to matter if media is in the drive or not. natew
Hi Something on the system is not reporting the drive correctly to Retrospect. Does uninstalling the CD drive in the Windows device manager and rebooting make any difference? Thanks Nate
