sedbuilders
I'm running WinXP Home (original system from Dell: 8300 desktop) and I've been running Retrospect Backup Pro (vs 6.5.350 and I installed the latest driver "RDU.rpx") to an external Maxtor 5000DV successfully for some time (not backing a network). However, long story short, recently I needed to format the Maxtor (NTFS). I set up RB Pro and the first unattended backup went off without a hitch. Now this scenario is happening each time: the subsequent backup brings up the RB Pro window, but it sits there doing nothing for as long as I will tolerate it (minimum one hour) before I am forced to do the three finger salute (Con+Alt+Del) to stop its process. The window's bottom left corner states that there is one process running even though nothing is obviously happening. It, also, causes the Maxtor to freeze in its tracks too. Any ideas or known fixes are welcomed. Thanks in advance.
natew
Hi I would guess that XP system restore is monitoring the maxtor drive and slowing everything to a crawl. Right click on the my computer icon and turn off system restore for the Maxtor drive. That will likely sort it out. Nate
reva
I also got a hanging retrospect just when it started up, also when I remove the external HD. Then I uninstall retrospect and reinstall it and the first time it works but the second time it's freezing again! I am clueless what's wrong, retrospect worked without problems for a long time before.
