Backing Up Exchange Mail Boxes!

Hi!

We are running a MS Exchange Server 2003 on a Windows 2000 Server. We use Restrospect 6.5.350 to backup all the workstations (all MAC) and the server. We are having problems when we try to backup the user mailboxes. We get this:

- 05.01.2005 21:47:45: Copying Bill Gates (name of the user)

Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system)

The First Storage Group and the SRS Storage reports following:

- 05.01.2005 19:56:57: Copying First Storage Group

05.01.2005 19:56:57: No files need to be copied

05.01.2005 19:56:57: Execution completed successfully

- 05.01.2005 19:56:57: Copying SRS Storage

05.01.2005 19:56:57: No files need to be copied

05.01.2005 19:56:57: Execution completed successfully

Is this OK? No files need to be copied? I mean... there a lot of mail activity here and it just a little strange for me that no files need to be copied! And what about the Unknown File System error!!!??!!!

Please help me to resolve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

The exchange backup is set up as incremental. I've tested with full backup but the results are the same. I discovered that if I define the folders inside a mailbox as subvolumes Retrospect will back these up (with some errors though). This is not an ideal solution as users are changing their mailbox structure all the time.

Backup of mailboxes has never worked.

Thanks for your help.

Hi

I suspect there is corruption in the mailboxes somehow. Try this:

Export a mailbox to a pst file. Create a new user account and import the mail from the pst to the user account. Then try a backup of the new user's mailbox.

If that works chances are there is a problem with the mailbox structure.

You say that full backups have the same problem. Do you mean no files get backed up?

Thanks

Nate
