Can't perform Backup, error 1017 (insufficient permissions)

I have the OEM express version 6.0.222 which came with the Maxtor external drive I just purchased. It is running on Windows 2000 desktop (SP4). I installed the software and drive, but I cannot make a backup at all. I get error message, 1017, insufficient permissions.

 

I searched the archives, but this error message only seems to happen to people trying to backup from a network. I am just trying to backup the local C: drive. I am also the administrator.

 

I've tried reinstalling the software, and disabling NAV, but no luck. I CAN however, make a duplicate but that is not what I bought this for. I've called the help desk, and got a few suggestions, but no joy so far.

I finally figured out what the problem was (on my own) so I am posting here for anyone else who may have a similar headache.

 

It turns out I had to give full access permissions to "everyone" on the C: drive (right click on the folder (or drive), select properties, select security, and check "allow full control" for everyone).

 

I don't know why this is so, since I am the administrator, but it was necessary for me.
