philx509
Hi all. I'm using Retrospect 6.0 for Windows to backup the "main" system plus two other Win clients. I use an Exabyte 8700 tape drive. I'm very happy with my strategy exept for the minor problem of too many older backup tapes. When a backup is more than six months old, I would like to keep only the full backup what was done with I started the set. I would like to reuse all the other tapes? Is there any (easy) way to do this? Yes, I know I "should have" been writing down this information each month, but somehow I thought I could figure this information out from the backup set properties. Only right now, after the fact, I can't. Thanks for helping. philx509
natew
Hi Unfortunately tape makes this impossible. Your best bet is to start a new backup set, use it for a while and then erase the first set. Actually there is one thing you could do.... Do you remember how many tapes you used when you did the initial backup? All you have to do is run a catalog rebuild operation in Retrospect using just those first tapes. When it finishes recataloging those tapes stop the recatalog and run your backups from there. You may end up with some extra data but its close to what you want. Hope that helps Nate Nate
