Quickit
I installed Retro 6.5 on a WinXP machine, and have one Win2000 client and one MacOS X client that I would like to add to the backup. Both machines have the newest clients running on them, and both indicate that they are "on". Yet when I try to add them on the Client list, the scan never finds them. If I click on the "test" button and try their IP's, they both work, but never show up on the list of valid clients. How do I add the clients manually, or get them to show up on the list? I know the machines are all on the same network, can be ping'd, etc., and can be seen with the "test" function, but that's it.... (Firewall disabled on all 3 machines for test purposes) Thanks, Quickit
natew
Hi Are all of the machines on the same subnet? Do any of them have two network cards? Thanks Nate
Quickit
All on the same subnet, they all have single NICs. 100% sure.
natew
Hi To narrow down the problem a bit try this: Install Retrospect on the Windows 2000 computer and see if you can add the OSX client. If that works, we know it is a problem somewhere on the XP machine. If that fails then there is something wrong with the network or network hardware. What kind of switch/hub/router are you using? Quickit
I had a bad feeling you were going to suggest that ... It actually was on the 2000 machine, but the SCSI interface/tape drive kept causing the server to crash and reboot. My manager want's it on the XP machine, so that's where it goes. But on the other topic, yes, the OSX client was visible to the 2K machine when it wasn't crashing. That's why I can't figure out why the XP machine can't see the OSX or 2K clients, as they are all on the same 16 port Asante switch.... natew
Hi That helps, thanks. Is there any VPN software installed on the XP machine? You are 100% positive that the firewall is disabled on the XP box? It has to be something either blocking access on port 497 or something routing multicast packets to the wrong network interface...
