RogerS
How can I completely delete an entire backup so that the storage media is empty and no catalogs exists? I naturaly think "erase the files & folders on the storage media" then delete the Catalog files. ??? (The brute force method) I have three hard drives on my system. C, D, E. E:is for backups. D:is for source file storage, 300mb used, the remaining space on D: is reserved for backup. E & D are members 1 & 2 of my normal backup set(Disk Backup), and recycle backup set. When E: is full, to the limits I specified, D: is used to it's specified limits. I recently performed a "Recycle Backup" and nothing was backed up. The normal backup files weren't erased. The recycle folders on the backup media were empty. The normal backup folders were still full. What am I missing? Isn't the "Recycle Backup" supposed to clear ALL the sessions including the "Normal backups and leave 1 (One) session created after the "recycle backup" backs up everything? If I have 50 sessions backed up using the "Normal Backup set", and I want to limit the total number of sessions to 50, can't I just delete the oldest sessions? Won't retrospect do this for me? I see sessions as "restore points". If my backup media can hold 1000 seesions, should I not be able to set a limit on how many sessions Retrospect keeps bumping the oldest session in favor of the newest? natew
Hi Recycle should be working. Something else is going on here. Make sure you have the "automatically re-use prenamed media" option enabled in the Retrospect preferences. You can also go to configure->backup sets->options->media action and recycle the set there. RogerS
Hi Nate: >Make sure you have the "automatically re-use prenamed media" option enabled in the >Retrospect preferences. It wasn't checked so I checked it. >You can also go to configure->backup sets->options->media action and recycle the set >there. And that's exactly what I did. It worked just as expected... Deleted the old data and created a new backup! I did have one problem though; I previously created a new selector and called it "CD" for drive c: and Drive D: (There's data on both to backup). In it was selected drive C:, all folders & files except cache, Drive D:, all folders & files except cache, and never include .tmp files, retrospect files, Recycle Bin. "Source" lists C and D (1 of 2). Destination is "CD" of which E: & D: are members. E: is the primary and I limited it to 98%. D: has data files written that occupy apprx. 300 Mb. It's limited to 88% allowing for space to add more data files. Eventually I'll get an external drive... It didn't work! No files are selected. For now I just ran with the original config to create a backup of both drives. The log shows it as two seperate backups. Thank You for your help!!! natew
Hi Now I am confused. You say your destination is a "CD" but you are using a disk backup set? What is your backup media? Hard disk or CD? I suspect there is a problem with your selector. Edit your selector and click on the blue check mark at the top of the screen. This will allow you to check your selector rules against a volume of your choosing. Thanks Nate
RogerS
After re-reading that post reply, I can understand your confusion! 1. Following your suggestion, "Recycle" worked great! 2. Clarification: The "Selector" question was a new question. I created a new selector and called it "C-D". Not because I'm using a burnable "CD". "C-D" in this instance means: "C Drive & D Drive", Hence "C-D"... Anyway,I deleted that selector because it confused me! I was trying to eliminate creating Two seperate backups: One of drive C, and one of drive D. EDIT: Having read post #: 50196 - 12/12/04 - 11:30PM by "TERRAN". This is what I was trying to do.. Will try that suggestion. Thanks for resolving the "Recycle" issue...
