mattip
Hi, we try to use Retrospect 6.5 together with an Overland Library Express DLT but did not succeede so far: Or setup is as follows: Server OS: Win XP SP2 Retrospect 6.5.350, rdu 5.4.110 The library is connetet via two SCSI adapters to the server: Adaptec 29160LP-U160 SCSI (this ist connected to the library; SE SCSI) Adaptec AHA 2944UW PCI-SCSI (connected to the 4 DTL7000; Diff SCSI) We do see the Library and the tapes in the device configuration window but we ar not able to perform any load/unload actions (drag&drop fails) Are there any known problems with this configuration, especially with Retrospect and two SCSI Adapters? The same library works without any problems at a Sun with Legato Networker. Regards, Matthias
natew
Hi Make sure all windows drivers for the device are disabled in the Windows device manager. Otherwise you will have conflicts. Make sure all 3rd party drivers for the device are disabled. Make sure you are running Retrospect Single Server edition or higher. Thanks Nate
mattip
Hi Nate, all windows drivers are disabled and there are no third party drivers installed or enabled. We have Retrospect Multi Server installed. Any other ideas? Regards, Matthias
natew
Hi Check the configure->devices->environment window in Retrospect. If it says "devices visible using NT Passthrough" run the ASPIINST.exe utility in the Retrospect program folder. If it says "devices visible using ASPI" type CTRL + ALT + P + P and click "use nt scsi passthrough" on the execution heading. Then restart Retrospect. One of those two might work. Is there any reason you have the loader and the tape drive on different adapters? Could you cable it so they are on one? Thanks Nate
mattip
Well this all has been done, without success. We do have 2 controllers, because the library and the drives have different scsi interfaces (historical reasons...) The Overland LXG module is connected via single ended SCSI to an Adeptec 29160LP, the Overland LXB modules with the DLT drives are connected via differential SCSI to an Adaptec 2944UW (both SCSI adapters are installed in the Retrpspect machine, of course) Regards, Matthias Quote: Hi Check the configure->devices->environment window in Retrospect. natew
Hi Are there any firmware updates around for the loader? Thanks Nate
mattip
Well finally we were able to get the Library controlled by Retrospect. We were able to get two single ended DLT drives. So we could connect both the drives and the library to only one SCIS controller. Everything worked as expected immediately after that. We have an open case on this issue with Dantz Europe for about 3 weeks now. You were the only one, who was at least thinking about the second controller. For the developers it should have been easy to find out that Retrospect cannot handle configurations, where the drives and the library management module are driven by different SCSI controllers. So at the end the only useful information came for free from this forum (thanks Nate) but not from the support contract, that we paid money for.
