jashley
I have heard of a backup strategy for large capacity backups in which a business will purchase a server with 10 or so hotswap SATA drive bays, using the server as a replacement for a tape library. They purchase 20 SATA drives and just rotate them as they would with tapes in a conventional scheme. Does anyone out there have experience with this strategy? Specifically, how does Retrospect handle the rotation of media (SATA drives)? With an autoloader, the tapes are inventoried automatically as they are inserted, and the backup just pulls an available tape out of the pool. Can hotswap SATA drives be labeled and placed in a media pool just like tapes in an autoloader?
natew
Hi You can definitely use disks like tapes in Retrospect in this manner but it will require some management. i.e. you will have to keep track of which disks go in and when. Thanks Nate
