Laptop auto backup - but not when connected by dial-up

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

We are faced with the classic problem of how to backup the data for people who do a lot of their work out of the office on laptops, but who cannot be relied upon to make their own backups.

They will frequently connect to our office network using a direct dial-up modem connection rather than VPN, but this would be too slow to backup over. We are trying to find a way to automatically and transparently backup to a server when they come into the office and logon to our network directly.

Would any of the Dantz products be able to do this?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi

Yes!

Proactive backup is designed with this very purpose in mind. It senses when a client machine becomes available and runs the backup immediately.

The trial version of Retrospect multi server includes Proactive backup if you would like to try it out.

Thanks

Nate

Thanks for the reply Nate.

Just to be sure...

Are you saying that Proactive wil be able to tell the difference between a client logged into the network via a dial-up and one linked directly to the LAN, and only run the backup if the connection is direct?

Thanks again
