Retrospect hanging at "preparing for open file backup"

We have one Windows XP client machine (out of ~ two dozen) that Retrospect has started hanging on since we installed Windows XP SP2. The Retrospect Activity Monitor shows that it is "preparing for open file backup", and never moves on. Turning off Open File Backup solves the problem, but that means turning it off for all clients. Any suggestions? We're using Retrospect Multi Server v. 6.5.350, and the client is 6.5.136.

FYI, this sounds similar to a problem reported in this thread, but the suggestions posted there haven't helped: http://forums.dantz.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=professional&Number=47025

Thanks,

James Harold

Hi

On the XP machine do you see any errors in regard to the volume shadow copy service in the event logs? Are you able to manually start the volume shadow copy service on that client?

For the moment you could just create a seperate backup script for this client and turn off open file backup for that script only. That way you can still use open file for all the other clients.

Thanks

Nate

Well yes, in fact there is an error:

Source VSS Event ID: 5013

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Shadow Copy writer ContentIndexingService called routine VsServiceChangeState which failed with status 0x8007041d (converted to 0x800423f4).

The Volume Shadow Copy Service itself shows that it's running. Does any of that help?

BTW, I did uninstall, reboot, and reinstall the Retrospect client. No effect.

Thanks,

James Harold
