rayphillips Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Please explain why this error would occur: File "C:\Documents and Settings\Wendy\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst": can't read, error -1111 (locked range conflict) This is using Retrospect Single Server 6.5.350 on a Windows Server 2003 Standard machine with the Open File Backup and Proactive Backup options to backup files on a laptop running Windows XP Pro with Retrospect client 6.5.136. This error always happens for this file on this laptop, so it's not being backed up at present.
Lennart_T Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 It's a "feature" of Outlook to refuse any concurrent readers (in this case Retrospect) of the message file (Outlook.pst) while Outlook is running. Be sure to check the "Force backup of Microsoft Outlook data" in the backup preferences. (It is checked by default). Now, there are two possible problems: 1) The user has unsaved changes in a message, so Outlook refuses to quit until the user confirms the save (or not). 2) The user re-launches Outlook immediately.
rayphillips Posted October 25, 2004 Author Report Posted October 25, 2004 Yes, the "Force backup of Microsoft Outlook data" option is set. The machine retrospect is installed on is backing up Outlook .pst files from more than twenty laptops and only one has this problem. Outlook doesn't have to close during the backup because the Open File Backup option is installed.
Lennart_T Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Does this single client have all the updates the others have? I can't think of anything else that might be causing this.
natew Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Hi Are there any errors about open file backup failing on this machine? What is the filesystem of the disk on the problem client? Is the volume shadow copy service running on that machine? Thanks Nate
rayphillips Posted October 28, 2004 Author Report Posted October 28, 2004 Yes, there's always an error about open file backup failing, as per: + Normal backup using Xxxx Xxxx's Outlook at 28/10/2004 08:35 (Execution unit 2) To Backup Set Xxxx Xxxx's Outlook... Can't use Open File Backup option for Outlook on Xxxxx-PC, error -1017 (insufficient permissions) - 28/10/2004 08:35:07: Copying Outlook on Xxxxx-PC 28/10/2004 08:35:07: Connected to Xxxxx-PC File "C:\Documents and Settings\Xxxxx\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst": can't read, error -1111 (locked range conflict) 28/10/2004 08:39:57: Snapshot stored, 6 KB 28/10/2004 08:40:02: Comparing Outlook on Xxxxx-PC 28/10/2004 08:40:10: 1 execution errors Completed: 3 files, 188.6 MB Performance: 83.7 MB/minute (42.6 copy, 2262.1 compare) Duration: 00:05:02 (00:00:31 idle/loading/preparing) The file system is FAT32. No, the Volume Shadow Copy service is turned off. Today I ran the backup with Outlook shutdown and that worked, except for it not being able to use open file backup.
natew Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 Hi Open file backup and the Volume Shadow Copy service will not work on fat32 disks. Your best bet is the quit outlook option that you found. Thanks Nate
