  1. I have the latest version of Retrospec for Mac, and am running 10.4.7 on a G5 1.8 Dual. I am backing up from a 160gb internal to another 160gb internal, and both are SATA drives. I only have about 71gb in use and recycle backups every 3 months. It did a recycle yesterday, and it took almost 5 hours to fully backup and veryify the 71gb of info. That seems extremely slow. I have a similiar setup in Windows XP that backs up about the same amount of info in about 1.5 hrs. Why am I having such a performance hit in the Mac machine? Any ideas and help will be appreciated. Thanks, Mark
  2. I had posted last summer that I couldn't get my beige G3 to boot from the 5.1 disk and was told at that time by a Dantz rep that they reproduced the failure and that they would post a fix. I checked the thread and didn't see any indication of a fix. Has this been done and I missed it? I really need to have the means to be able to boot from a cd for restore. Thanks
  3. I get the same intermittent crash results no matter where I try to backup.
  4. I had the same result you did. I specifically upgraded to 5.1 to get the ability to restore w/o having to reinstall the OS on my Beige G3 and I can't boot from the upgrade disk either. I have tried it by selecting the RD disk in both 9.2.2 and 10.2.6 and also holding down the 'C' key and nothing works. They either need to come up with a fix or refund our upgrade price! Mark
  5. This is the factory produced CD that I am trying to boot off of.
  6. I can boot from the installer cd and also from Norton Systemworks for X with no problems. But for some reason, the Retrospect cd only gives me a gray screen with nothing happening. I tried holding down the 'C' key and also selecting the cd from startup disk with no success either.
  7. I have a question regarding the new 5.1 version: I have 2 internal drives, one with 9.2.2 on it and the other with 10.2.6. Can I boot from the drive with 9.2.2 to be able to do a full restore of the 10.2.6 drive? I tried to boot from the emergency CD, and for some reason I can't get it to boot off of it. This is being used on a Beige G3 which runs 10.2.6 with no problem. Any help will be appreciated. It seems that the easiest way to restore would be from the 9.2.2 drive, but if I remember correctly, in 5.0 you had to restore an X drive while running X software. Is that still the case? Thanks, Mark

  9. My hardware setup: Beige G3 DT, upgraded to 500 mhz G3, 512mb ram, Acard ATA 133 card connected to internal 80g Maxtor and 40G Maxtor drives, OWC 80G Firewire external drive for backup, Firewire is provided by a Sonnett Tango card (USB & Firewire ports) and a LiteOn 42x24x42 internal CDRW. There is also a factory installed Jaz drive internally mounted. Hope someone can help me get rid of this problem. I turned on the crash reporting feature of Console and even tho I couldn't make sense of most of it, it seemed to point to something in Retrospect causing the problem. Thanks, Mark
  10. I am backing up to an external firewire drive. Desktop is usually just functioning normally, either in the middle of a backup, or comparing files to complete the backup.
  11. I just upgraded to 5.1 and am using it with 10.2.6. For some reason I can't get thru a full backup without the program either quitting completely w/o any kind of message, or having a full kernel panic, or also it has quit and gone to the gray screen stating that I must restart my computer. I had similar problem with Express 5.0 but not nearly as frequently. I never figured out why Express did it, and I certainly don't know why 5.1 is doing it. Any help to eliminat this problem is greatly appreciated. Mark
  12. Using 10.1.5 and would like to use an external Firwire drive to be able to boot from and restore to internal IDE drive. I have been told that Beige G3's can't boot from Firewire, so this may be a blockade.
  13. I have a firewire external drive that I use exclusively for my backups. Can I install either 10.1.5 or 10.2 on this drive with Express and be able to do a full install to my primary drive in the event of a failure?
  14. I have a Mac Beige DT upgraded to 500mhz G3 and have recently added a SIIG Ultra ATA 133/100 Pro card to. I am trying to backup my existing Maxtor 30G attached to the Motherboard so I can reformat it to operate on the faster SIIG card. My backup device is a Maxtor 80G "quiet" drive which is attached to the controller card. I am trying to backup aprox 18G's of data to the new drive form the 30G attache do the MB, but I keep getting a '206' error. Are there any problems with this type of controller and Retrospect? I just upgraded to the latest version of Express yesterday and am continuing to have the problem. I have 6 partitions on the 30G drive and am trying to backup to a file on the 80G. I get 3/4 of the way thru the 2nd partition when the error message shows up and the backup stops. I have gotten the same result on 3 attempts and have run both Disk First Aid and Norton between tries. Your help will be appreciated.
