  1. I understand that when switching to a new company the development really begins to lack however I wish I had realized this before purchasing the program. I ran it in "trial" mode for a month with no problems at all so its a bit upsetting that this happens after purchasing this. Oh well, I set my stuff back up and I started my backups last night and it crashed out during "some" event though I don't know which. I just restarted the engine and I'm going to attempt running each script individually. Thanks for all the help guys.
  2. How do you know? - Have you had tickets with Roxio (who have owned Retrospect for almost exactly 6 months)? - What issues did you ask for support regarding? This issue? - What did they say when the did, after quite a while, respond? I'll be riding my bicycle and eating lunch. Dave Yes, I've had tickets with Retrospect. I had a simple question regarding open file backup that they did answer quite wonderfully however their reply took over two weeks. Company reorganization and purchasing is a normal procedure and I understand that its not easy however I still think customer service should be a priority.
  3. Thanks for the answer. I guess I'll attempt to just make daily copies of my config files so that I can possibly restore them. Is there anyway(without setting them up individually and waiting a month on each as thats how long it seems to take when for it to have an issue) that I can see which configuration is causing the issue and remove that from the file?

  5. Sure. Let go with the rundown of the version first. The server: -Mac OS X 10.6.4(not 10.6.5 yet) -The retrospect engine is 8.2.x however I don't know how to tell you more than that since I can't get the engine to stay on long enough to run the program to check it! The client versions are a mix of 6.3.029 & 6.3.027 My apologies for not explaining myself better but I am running the retrospect client on 6 servers to back them up. The servers are the following -Windows Server 2003 R2 -Mac OS X 10.6.4 -Windows XP Pro -Ubuntu Linux For the logs, yes there is a crash report but I can't seem to trace it back. I will follow this post up with the last post in the assert logs. I renamed the file, restarted the engine and let it throw this log again to make sure I got the correct error. If there's anything else you need, let me know.
  6. Ok I'm def in need of some help here. I've been attempting to use retrospect now for about 6 months and I'll be honest, this is the worth software experience I've had in my life. I'm attempting to use 8.2 on a mac mini server. The server connects to a remote AFP share to store all the media. I've got the "multi-server" version and I'm using it to backup about 6 servers. They are a mix of windows, mac and linux. It seems to work fine for about a month but then suddenly the engine just decides to turn off and then not work again. The engine will start and then less than 30 seconds later will just turn off. If I go in and delete all the config files and set all my stuff up again w/ the same media sets, it works fine but I refuse to continue doing this every month. I know this is not enough information to help you guys but if you can tell me what you need I'll be glad to give it to you. I'll be checking this forum all day long as I need to solve this problem. I emailed retrospect support but they tend to take quite a while to respond... Thanks in advance guys!
  7. I read this first and just assumed you thought I was an idiot, then I actually looked at it. For some reason, even tho this is a daily schedule its not smart enough to just automatically throw it to the next day. Thanks for fixing my idiocy!
  8. I just reinstalled the newest version of retrospect engine on my mac and re-setup all my backups but I'm having a very strange issue. It appears that the system will only allow me to schedule backups between 3pm and 12am. Anything outside of that, I can change the dial but it will not update on the actual line. I thought this was a limitation of the trial b/c when I had first installed I put on the trial key out of getting it up quickly but then I put in my actual key and I'm getting the same thing. If anyone has any ideas please let me know b/c I'm really limiting my backup possibilities currently...
  9. Ok so I've been messing around with this for a while and I did manage to fix MY issue though I can't promise it will help for you but it worked on 6 media sets for me so I hope so. Here's the full steps I followed, they may be overkill but it worked so I done it! 1. Media Sets->Choose your media set-->Members->Click the Pencil Icon to edit and rechoose your locatino. 2. Click your media set again. 3. Click repair. For me this took like 5 seconds to run at most, even on large backups(500gb+). 4. Once that is finished click verify. Let the verify finish. Obviously this may take a while depending on the size of your backup and speed of your network. Some of mine took multiple days. 5. BACKUP!! WOOOHOOO Once again, I don't know if this will work for you b/c I can't repeat the tests again b/c I'm not about to break it again but now I can backup and restore with my old media sets w/o any issue. Good luck!
  10. Thanks for the reply and yes, the sources are the exact same. I actually had that guess myself and check the /Volumes directory and the source is the same as the media set member, both are located at /Volumes/backups. I have also attempted to remove the source and add it back w/ the same result.
  11. I upgraded my engine to 8.2 yesterday and now I can't seem to run any of my backups. Let me fully explain my setup. I am running the Engine on a Mac Mini Server(Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 4gb ram, 10.6.4) and the backups are actually being stored on a network volume on another server that is mounted by retrospect. The share is AFP. It has been working perfectly for a while but after the upgrade it always says, "waiting for media". When I click the Choose Media button the volume that the backups are located on does show up however if I choose the location of the backup it simply says that it is already a member of the set. I've tried the following(and probably more but this is all I can remember): -rebooted the server, multiple time -attempted to create a new media set on the volume, same result -mounted the volume by hand write to it usign the finder to ensure that there is not a problem with the share, works fine If anyone has any ideas I would GREATLY appreciate it. I have been testing retrospect for two months now for our organization and I literally just put in the order to pay for it on Monday and I'm beginning to regret that decision! Thanks in advance!
