  1. I have "shut down" specified in my preferences after completion and also had it in the tool bar area where the drop down window allows selection of what to do when back up ends. Since the last update everytime retrospect starts it has "stay in retrospect" as the option selected. SO every day I have to manually set it to "shut down". Not a major bug but really something I'd rather not deal with. If I forget to set it the machine stays up.
  2. I run multiple scripts. Weekly, Daily, Monthly, ETC. Each time I want the machine to shut down, weekly and monthly, I have to go in and manually set it to shut down. Some of the times that doesn't work.. How can I --- Or can I set shutdown or a batch file to shut the machine down based on the script being run. Meaning on daily runs leave the machine up. But on Monthly and weekly shut it down since those end early morning? Thanks..
  3. I left Vista months ago... Actually I was really pissed off at the time. I wrote to support and they pointed me to what was their idea of becoming able to support Vista. What the article says is - "Using Windows Vista Upgrading to Retrospect 7.5.387: If you have upgraded to Vista and Retrospect is already installed you will need to uninstall and then reinstall the application before using it. Uninstalling the application will not remove your preferences so you will not need to recreate your scripts. Automated Operations: When Retrospect automatically launches on Windows Vista, the application window is hidden. If an operation is running and Retrospect is manually launched an alert is displayed warning that an operation is in progress. You are then able to close the alert and let the operation continue or stop the operation and show the Retrospect window. Retrospect Icon: On Windows Vista Retrospect does not display the icon in the task bar. Retrospect Backup User (RBU): The RBU is not supported on Windows Vista and you must run as the logged in user. Disaster Recovery: Creating a bootable Vista DR CD is not supported. To restore your entire computer first install a temporary OS and then follow the instructions for restoring an entire computer in Chapter 8 of the Retrospect Users Guide. Client limitations on Vista: Vista does not correctly display messages from the Retrospect Client (i.e. backup countdown, successful/unsuccessful backup notification, and "you have not been backed up in n days"). Messages sent from the Retrospect Client can be seen in the "Interactive Services" dialog which will allow the user to see the corresponding Client dialog. To avoid seeing the "Interactive Services" dialog set the countdown to 0 seconds and turn off the notification in the client preferences. Windows Vista x64: This release does not support backing up and restoring the 64 bit version of Windows Vista. Private folders on Vista Clients: To use the "Private Files/Folder/Volumes" option on Vista clients open the Client Control Panel with Administrator privileges." Now I sure as hell do not see any improvements... All I see are things that do not function under Vista so in my opinion they did nothing, or the very least they had to.. I do not use retrospect any more... I loved the product under xp. And everyone sure as hell new the changes were coming. I guess this pretty much shows what EMC thinks about retrospects users Link to what is printed/quoted above is:
  4. WHen I get a update to something online, I download it and install it as most do. I also save the originally downloaded file on HD in case it is needed again. It is on one of these files, last modified on 10/20 that I am getting "File does not compare" and there is no offset given as I have seen in other messages. This is not so much a major problem as it is an annoyance. - 12/2/2006 1:44:08 AM: Copying DATA (D:) 12/2/2006 2:08:51 AM: Snapshot stored, 15.7 MB 12/2/2006 2:08:54 AM: Comparing DATA (D:) File "D:\Programs in use\ais Watermark protector -r\aiswpp3110202006.exe": didn't compare 12/2/2006 2:31:14 AM: 1 execution errors Completed: 72533 files, 25.6 GB Performance: 1136.0 MB/minute (1100.1 copy, 1175.1 compare) Duration: 00:47:05 (00:01:03 idle/loading/preparing) Each Friday I do a recycle Backup. My current version is Version 7.9.5.102. Chkdsk reports no errors and I can run the file. So it is not corrupt. Any ideas and or suggestions are appreciated.
