  1. Retrospect 7.0 I have just installed my copy of v. 7.0 on a new computer. It's been 2 years since I learned the ropes and I've forgotten a lot. I find that the "execution deferred" box is checked and I can't find out how to uncheck the box so executions aren't deferred any more. Can someone help? Thanks
  2. I have the same question as the previous poster but I am using version 7.0. How do I delete the backups for the first 6 months of the present 12 months? Thanks
  3. Retrospect 7.0.344 WXP Seagate Ext drive. I use 5 different backup sets, Entire C drive Weds, Entire C drive Sat, Quicken, Shared, and Catalogs. I have about a years worth. I would like to start over again, erasing all but the last 2-3 weeks of backups on the external drive. How is the best way to proceed with this? Should I start with making a 5 new differently named backup sets, run them a few times, then delete the old ones? I don't understand exactly what "groom" does. Is that an option? Thanks for your advice.
  4. R 7.0 WXP 200G EHDD This subject doesn't describe my problem well. I recently deleted from my HDD some files from no-longer used backup sets, and I tried to simplify the HDD directory structure. This probably caused a problem. Some of the HDD retrospect files are now shown in blue, when viewed with Windows Explorer. I don't know what that means. When I now run a script for, say, "Backup Quicken 2007", a screen opens asking me to "select a disk to add as storage for Quicken 2007" and that it was groomed but didn't free up enough space... I can't seem to provide it with the proper answer. I have created several new backup sets like 2-Backup Shared instead of 1-Backup Shared in order to get it to work. I believe I had to run an immediate backup instead of a scripted backup to create the "2" backup since it wouldn't use the "1-" Backup Set (why, I don't know). What's the proper approach to straighten out my HDD directory structure and what do I need to change in the naming of backup sets? Should I just reformat the HDD, delete all the backup sets and start again? I don't really want to do that. Thanks
  5. Thanks, ALL! What I was trying to accomplish was to copy my Retro. Catalog files from my C drive to my EHDD. I certainly don't want to delete what's already there. Would a regular Backup to a "Catalog Bkup Set" from C to EHDD accomplish this?
  6. Retro 7.0, WXP A poster to another thread suggested backing up his R. catalog files from his C drive to an external drive after a full backup by using a Duplicate script. What is the advantage of using this type of script instead of a Backup script? If it is better to use a Duplicate script, how do you answer the question "Really duplicate to external HD, replacing all contents" that pops up in the course of creating the script? That sounds sort of ominous! Thanks
  7. When I do a Recycle backup on, say, the first of the month, does it leave any backups from the previous month's worth of Normal backups, to cover the possibility of a catastrophe in the first days of the month? I use scripts but invoked manually when I want to run them. Should I make a separate set of scripts to run the Recycle backup, or do an Immediate Recycle backup on the first of the month? Thanks.
  8. Thanks very much! When you do the Recycle backup on, say, the first of the month, does it leave any backups from the month's worth of Normal backups, to cover the possibility of a catastrophe in the first days of the month? I use scripts but invoked manually when I want to run them. Should I make a separate set of scripts to run the Recycle backup, or do an Immediate Recycle backup on the first of the month? Thanks again.
  9. Retro 7.0.12.105 I am an inexperienced user, despite the fact that I have been using R7 for a year. It backs up well and several file restores have gone well. But I still don't understand several things. At present, my 200 G Seagate EHDD is getting full with a year's worth of progressive backups. I'd like to know the steps to remove most of the data in my four primary backup sets, leaving the most recent. Then continue what I am doing, with plenty of EHDD free space. Do I delete files using Windows Explorer? My four backup sets are: "Quicken Daily", "Shared", "All C Drive Weds", and "All C Drive Sat". Obviously the last two are the biggest and are run twice weekly. I run these with scripts, one for each. I recently made four new backup sets with nearly the same names as above, but with 2007 as part of the name, and I instructed the scripts to write to the new (2007) backup set destinations. I'd like to get rid of the backups associated with the previous backup sets ( before the "2007" ones). I guess that's really what I'm asking! In the future, how do I avoid keeping all the outdated backups in each set. Is that a "groom" function, or should I use "forget"? Is R 7.5 easier to use. The learning curve for R7.0 was pretty steep! Thanks
  10. I am sticking with 7.0 for now. There are so many posts here about terrible speed problems with 7.5.
  11. I have done option 1 and rebooted. When Client opens on the client computer, it is still v. 7.0.107.
  12. I have downloaded the Retro Client 7.0.112 file and unzipped it, but how do I get Retrospect to recognize it? Opening the Client still shows it to be v. 7.0.107. I have put the unzipped .rcu file in the Updater folder. Thanks
  13. Retro 7.0 Would a Duplicate Backup be a reasonable way to synchronize data files on the backup computer to a client laptop, probably choosing newer files to be duplicated? Thanks
  14. WXP, Retro 7.0, backing up to 200G Seagate EHDD Inexperienced fairly new user. I would like to make a New Backup Set Backup. The manual says to just "do it", implying that there is an option under Backup>backup for a New Backup Set Backup, but there isn't such an option. (Nor is there an option to do a Recycle Backup or a New Member Backup.) Is the secret to create the new backup set under Configure/Backup Sets manually then manually direct the backup to use that backup set? Thanks
