  1. I am running Retrospect 8.2.0 (399) on 6GB Xserve 10.6.4 Quad Core Xeon, client is 6.3.029 mac and logged off. When I tell it to back up it goes very fast, looking at log I see. "Container BusinessManagerJackie was empty (had no volumes)" When I look at the source I can see the volumes no problem. If I log on the user, then the backup works fine. I have other other mac clients that are showing "no source" but if I log in they work fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  2. I have also been having issues with clients not showing up. I open the Sources, then click add. It shows Default and Use multicast. It spins and spins, but nothing shows up. I then restarted the computer and still same problem. I then choose "Test Address..." and type in the IP of a known client, it shows the information fine. Client Version 6.3.028. I then choose "Add Source Directly..." It spins for a short time then shows a green check box to the right of the Add button. But it does not show in the add window still
  3. Retrospect just crashed again. I just added a new tape and turned on proactive backups, then it crashed. 1/9/10 6:02:27 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[45226] #3> LmGet: ndex = 25092, zero offset 1/9/10 6:02:27 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[45226] Assertion failure at "elem.cpp-1098", on threadID 0xB23A7000 1/9/10 6:02:28 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.retrospect.RetroEngine[45226]) Exited with exit code: 255 Retrospect 8.1 has been totally unusable for me.
  4. I also am getting the engine not starting. (It was running and I was looking at some script rules from another machine and it suddenly showed it was disconnected. Looking on the server I saw the prefs showed the "Start engine" button indicating it was stopped. I pressed the start, entered the password and it it just stayed "Start Retrospect". I am running 10.6.2 on a OSX Quad core server. Here is the console.... 1/9/10 4:20:18 PM authexec[42646] executing /Library/PreferencePanes/RetrospectServer.prefPane/Contents/Resources/Retrospect 1/9/10 4:20:18 PM [0x0-0x11b11b].com.apple.systempreferences 2010-01-09 16:20:18.637 Retrospect[42646:e07] Retro Prefs Pane Helper: start_server 1/9/10 4:20:18 PM sudo[42647] root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/ ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/bin/launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.retrospect.launchd.retroengine.plist 1/9/10 4:20:19 PM [0x0-0x11b11b].com.apple.systempreferences com.retrospect.RetroEngine: Already loaded Executing Robin's sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.retrospect.launchd.retroengine.plist Now allows it to start.
  5. Is there any news on a package based installer? If so will this installer also allow the installation of the public key? Thanks
  6. I have been using Macintosh 6.2.234 client with 6.1 Server. Client is on a MacBookPro running 10.5.6. I noticed that while my client wasn't turned off, it wasn't backing up. I checked clients and it showed up fine as responding. But clicking on config said it wasn't visible on the network. I then forgot the client. Then it showed up as not logged on. I tried to log on and it would again say it wasn't visible on network. I then told it to add it manually and it said check the log for error. Log shows: "Activator code XXXXX is used for multiple clients: ITAMacBookPro at 10.211.55.2 and ITAMacBookPro at 192.168.44.101. The only way I could resolve this was to delete the retroclient.state file, then do a command line -setpass then I was able to log on. This same thing happened at a client of mine with another portable computer. This is a major pain, I hope this can be resolved in Retrospect X version.
  7. If you still have the catalog then you can set all the other tapes for that set as missing (you can change them back later), then you can use the "restore" and see what was on it.
  8. I had same problem. You have to download the latest firmware/Drivers from the ATTO site and install it. Then retrospect sees if fine. (Both old and new beta)
  9. Our building of snapshots have been glacial using 6.5 and 7.x. This is only for Windows computers. I note it most with Windows servers, but haven't "timed" it. It would be a good "stat" for Retro to note. "Backup time, snapshot time..."
  10. I have a backupset that stopped working. I choose "Verify" backupset and it fails to find the files giving a slew of errors in the log. I did a properties on the backupset, choose members then made sure it was pointed at the "right" location. Here is the example. I have a drive f, with a folder "DiskBasedBackups" that I point to for all my disk based backups sets. In the explorer I can see the following hierarchy was created: f:\DiskBasedBackups\Retrospect\dKronos\1-dKronos\ Inside this folder I see lots of .rdb files. If I change where the member is pointing, then the verify will ask me to "select the backupset member: Name: 1-dKronos" on BackupFire. I can then navigate to the folder and have it selected, but I can't select it. The dialog shows "Advanced...", "Open", "Show Members", "Choices" and "Cancel". I open the "1-dKronos" folder, then the "open" goes dim, but I don't have any way to "select it". If I choose "Choices" I can the select "Browse" and it asks me to point to the "AA0000001.rdb" file (I did this for the A0000000.rdb also). It will then continue the verify asking me for EACH of the .rdb files! Any idea on how to get around this issue!
  11. I think there is a "bug" in the python script.... It is missing a return ret at the end of the auth_send_mail( routine. I'm not a python expert so I may be wrong, but it seems wrong to me and putting it in fixed an issue I was having. ----- This ---- def auth_send_mail(server, to, frum, subject, body_file, user, passwd): srv = None ret = True try: srv = smtplib.SMTP(server) except: ret = False return ret try: srv.login(user, passwd) except smtplib.SMTPAuthenticationError: ret = False return ret try: srv.sendmail(frum, to, build_message(frum, to, subject, body_file)) except: ret = False return ret if __name__ == "__main__": import sys ----- Should be ----- def auth_send_mail(server, to, frum, subject, body_file, user, passwd): srv = None ret = True try: srv = smtplib.SMTP(server) except: ret = False return ret try: srv.login(user, passwd) except smtplib.SMTPAuthenticationError: ret = False return ret try: srv.sendmail(frum, to, build_message(frum, to, subject, body_file)) except: ret = False return ret return ret if __name__ == "__main__":
