Recommended Posts

I have searched for info on the following error codes......didn't find any helpful information.

Duplicate using Maxtor OneTouch at 8/25/2004 7:37 PM

Can't use Open File Backup option for IBM disk (C:), error -1017 (insufficient permissions)

To volume Maxtor Drive (E:)...

-8/25/2004 7:37:33 PM: Copying IBM disk (C:)

File "C:\Documents and Settings\Mel\Local Settings\Temp\Perflib_Perfdata_730.dat": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation)

File "C:\Program Files\Common Files\On Center Software\Server\OCSDBSelector.log": appears incomplete

File "C:\Program Files\Dantz\Retrospect\operations_log.utx": appears incomplete

8/25/2004 8:28:47 PM: Comparing Maxtor Drive (E:)

8/25/2004 9:21:44 PM: 4 execution errors

Completed: 61137 files, 12.8 GB

Performance: 255.4 MB/minute (265.5 copy, 246.1 compare)

Duration: 01:44:08 (00:02:09 idle/loading/preparing)

.........................................................................................................................

Please help with the following:

1) Are the errors significant or can they be ignored?

2) According to the spec info, ver 6.5 supports Open File Backup, why am I getting the 1017 error?

Express 5.6 previously installed running Maxtor 5000 firewire on XP with NTFS - source disk is NTFS in Dell notebook

Thank you.

Hi

These are all likely caused by the same thing.

Go into the windows services control panel and make sure the volume shadow copy service is set to automatic. All of the disks on your machine are NTFS right?

Thanks

Nate

I get the same 1017 error on a WinXP client. According to Dantz article 28181, open file backup only works with NTFS, not with FAT32. My client is a FAT32 client (because it's XP license is an upgrade from Win98). I just live with it.

If your client is XP then you should be able to convert to NTFS. Doesn't matter whether you upgraded from Win98.

Nate,

I checked the volume shadow copy service and found it to be set to manual. After changing this service to 'auto', I ran another duplicate with the following results. The errors still persist. Any other suggestions? Do you think that this backup (duplicate) is reliable with these errors? Please help. doh.gif

Yes, both drives are NTFS

Thank you,

Mel
