cogappuk
Hi I'm running a the mac backup server 5.0.238 and one of the workstations thats a G4 laptop, 512mb ram, OS 10.2.38 with about 1gig of free space isn't backing up properly, it's also using using client version 6.108 In the logs it says that there's a "not enough memory" I assume it must be down to the laptop side as the rest of the backups seems to be fine. However when the backup is in process, hardly any work is being done or there is little strain on the laptop. Can anyone please advise ?
AmyJ
"Not enough memory" errors usually come from the application side. * What kind of device are you backing up to? * How much physical memory do you have on the server? * How many files are on the client? cogappuk
We're backing up to a lacie dds4 tape drive onto 20gig tapes and there's over a gig of free space. There is about 14gig of files to be backed up from the client. Do i need to upgrade my backup server hardware or clear up some more space ? Are there issues with my backup server version with OS X ? cogappuk
As a follow up question what is the optimal amount of space for the back up server? How much revelance does this bare on the amount of data to be backed up ?
natew
Hi Your biggest concern will be the size of the catalog file. That can grow relatively quickly. For the short term you should be OK with your 1 GB of space. Nate
cogappuk
I think the cause of the "not enough memory" problem could be the fact that when backing up from the OSx machines there's a lot of files and the retrospect server version we are using can't back up everything at once.
