Attention! /var/log is not backed up by default with the Linux client.

When looking to restore some log files from a linux client, I discovered the following.

 

By default Retrospect excludes the following on a linux client:

 

character device@crw-------

block device@brw-------

socket files@srw-------

fifos@prw-------

doors@Drw-------

 

Paths

 

/tmp (parent directory /

/dev (parent directory /

/var/log (parent directory var

/var/cache (parent directory var

 

Even if you have "All Files" set it will not back up these files. You need to create a subvolume for /var/log or any other path you need, select the volume in client properties, and set the client to "Selected Volumes" instead of "Client Desktop". I hope this helps someone before disaster strikes.
