chuck Posted February 2, 2002 Report Share Posted February 2, 2002 Retrospect 5.6 with Driver Update Version 2.6 Windows98 seagate STT6201U ext usb tape drive problem backing up 20 GB from hard disk to tape. backs up 464.8 MB then hangs... after hanging, no tape drive activity, limited program response.. you can hit pause, then continue, to no effect, other than the toggle of the buttons.. you can hit stop, get the prompt for verification, and still nothing.. you cannot exit the program other than to use the task manager...menu exit does nothing. tried a fresh start again--same result--works really well until it hangs.... this time i went out for a few hours, came back, and had the message: Trouble writing media: "1-Backup Set B" error -102 trouble communicating.... I have run the seagate read/write diagnostics and they succeed without a problem. I have used other devices on my USB and they work perfectly....any ideas?? chuck Posted February 3, 2002 Author Report Share Posted February 3, 2002 follow up -- decided to try microsoft backup which came with Win98. backed up, compressed, verified the data without a problem.......... don't no if microsoft is using undocumented api strategy again, but dantz should consider why their product would be problematic..... just frustrated that i didn't try this sooner...
