cdr backup speed

Recommended Posts

retrospect seems to be able to write to cdrw at the rated speed of my drive.

however, verifies seem to be going at the same speed as writes.

i would have expected them to go much more quickly. my drive is a rather old one - a yamaha 6x4x16 scsi drive.

is there any reason why retrospect reads at 6x instead of 16x speed?

while this may seem picky, it actually represents a lot of time!

The verify phase of a backup doesn't just look at the files on the CD, but it goes in and makes checks against the original files on your hard drive. A fragmented hard drive or other problems affecting access to that data might cause slow verifies.

If you have software compression on, this can also slow down your verification.

Device, communication and media problems can affect verification speeds as well.
