206 Error w/ Onstream Echo 30 tape drive

Recommended Posts

I contacted Dantz Tech Support today. I am now able to successfully back up to the Onstream ADR tape cartridge. Here's what worked:

From within the Retrospect Directory, click on the "Immediate" tab and then click on the "Backup" button. In the resulting window, click the " Options" button. Another window appears . . . check the box to activate Data compression (in software). This last act seems to make the difference. (It is very important to deactivate hardware compression and activate software compression.) Also, be sure to have the tape drive up and running and the cartridge mounted (it will not appear on your desktop, but can be seen from within Retrospect). Then restart the computer so that OSX has plenty of opportunity to "see" the drive.

That's it! Successful backups!
