VXA firewire requires reboot

Recommended Posts

Earlier, I and others noted that a VXA-1 firewire tape drive can not be seen by Retrospect 5 in MacOS X 10.2.x without rebooting the host.

I have found a work-around for this: I attach a firewire hard drive between the host mac and the VXA tape drive. My firewire drive is an Oxford 911-based case obtain from OWC, with my old toshiba laptop drive installed. I connect the old laptop drive to the Mac, connect the tape drive to the laptop drive, turn on the tape drive, and then switch on the laptop drive. Two out of four partitions on the laptop drive appear on the desktop, and the tape drive is recognized by Retrospect without a reboot! Hurray!.

Host is Dual GHz DDR Ram G4, MacOS X 10.2.2

Retrospect 5.0.238, Driver 3.1
