Could it be a localization problem (it's a french version of Exchange) ?

Mayoff
Are you doing a restore back to the same exchange server? Do you have Retrospect configure to use an RBU account? Try to unlicense and re-license exchange from within Retrospect.
atakacs
Are you doing a restore back to the same exchange server? Nope - we had to reinstall from scratch (although we made sure to have similar naming) Do you have Retrospect configure to use an RBU account? Sorry RBU ? Try to unlicense and re-license exchange from within Retrospect. Hmm interesting suggestion but I gave up this WE and used a recovery service against an image copy of the server (to my satisfaction). Now it would still be nice if Retrospect would actually also have a restore function in a case similar mine...
