Access Denied Error

I backed up my home computer C: drive to my external HD using Retrospect "Duplicate" thinking that I could access the backed up data on my company laptop.

When I try to open the "My Documents" folder. I get an "Access Denied" error message.

I wanted to be able to have access to some of my personal data and music without having it stored on my company laptop, but it doesn't seem to let me do that.

I'm sure it has something to do with ownership, and I did fool around trying to acquire ownership of the "My Documents" folder on the external HD, but haven't been successful.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
