Best way to migrate a Windows 7 installation from one drive to another

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I have an IDE drive with Windows 7 and all my files and software. I have an E drive which is a SATA drive. I want to use Retrospect to migrate my C drive onto my E drive (erasing what's on E) and then I want to set my E drive as the primary boot drive. So here's my question... which way should I go:

1) Just "duplicate" C onto E using the duplicate function in retrospect

2) Do I first need to install Windows 7 on the E drive and THEN duplicate from C to E

is there another method I am not considering?

Bottom line is I want my primary drive to be a SATA drive, not an IDE drive, and I want to use Retrospect to do that migration for me.
