Deleting folders and files from an existing backup set

Vista 64, Retrospect Express 7.6

 

I created a backup set and ran a complete backup of my drive. When I ran another session, I discovered that a lot of folders were being backed up that need not have been. When I ran the next session, I went in and unmarked the folders I did not want backed up. This worked OK, however, I find that the changes I made were not remembered for the next session. How do I permanently unmark the folders for the backup set?
