nurquhar
I am still getting this -116 (volume doesn't exist) error when running backups. http://forums.dantz.com/showpost.php?post/125197/ Is there any exlplaination what this error is and what causes retrospect 7.6.123 to panic and halt my backups after running for an hour or two. This is most frustrating as I have backup to run which will take about 2 days !!!. The error seems to implie that there is something wrong with storing on my NAS drive. Yet even after the error has stopped the backup I can go to my backup sets and 'un skip' the member. I can then Groom the set succesfully and start it again. Well until it errors again anyhow. Mayoff
What exactly does the log say for this backup attempt?

Mayoff
This is basically saying that in the middle of the verification phase Retrospect has lost access to the destination hardware and the verify is stopping. Which of the 2 verification options are you using?
nurquhar
Its thorough verification. The only other option seems to be "No verfication" as the "Media verification" option is 'grayed out' in my scrip setup.
Mayoff
check the Configure>Preferences>media verification and make sure the option is not unchecked. Then try using media verification instead of thorough verification.
nurquhar
Dear Robin I am currently running a big backup with the MD5 media verification option on. Its suggesting it will take 23 hours so lets see how far it gets this time. Will keep you posted.
nurquhar
Dear Robin Backup has done 4hrs without falling over, so far so good. A bit cheeky but, is there anyway to stop retrospect constantly monitoring my CDROM drive while its open ??? This has been causeing me problems. Mayoff
Delayed write failure is a major Windows failure not Retrospect You either have failing disks or a serious communication problem to the NAS
blm14
Is your NAS device connected through SMB? Retrospect needs to have absolutely continuous access to any disk to which it is writing, and even a microsecond of connection loss will cause a write to fail. Have you ever tried to use an MS access database on a shared drive, and you leave the database open overnight to come in and see an error message about "connection lost"? Same principle...
