Best Practices for Backing Up and Restoring a Domain Controller

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been searching for documents how to backup and restore a Windows 2003 R2 domain controller using Retrospect. The only documents I can find are those using ntbackup.exe. Is there a white paper out there that tells me what files to back up for Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and other services and the best methods to perform the backup and restore.

Thanks in advanced,

Karl

Ive found over the years not to trust any one program or way of backing up. If you really need to have the server up and runnig again after a drive failure, the best way to create an image of the server's boot drive, plus backups. Acronis or Ghost is one way to create an image to a network share.
