Help - VXA-2 Firewire and Retrospect 6.1

Recommended Posts

We used to use a 10 unit autoloader VXA-2 drive with Retrospect 6 with our Mac xserve.

But we had to move to a new mac server and we bought a Firewire VXA-2 single unit tape drive.

We have both Retrospect 6 and the new Retrospect 8.

We need to restore from some older Retrospect 6 backup sets which means we can't use the new Retrospect 8.

But our Retrospect 6 can't see out Firewire VXA-2 drive. We no longer have access to the 10 unit VXA-2 autoloader (which worked fine with Retrospect 6)

Can somebody tell me how to get Retrospect 6 to see our Firewire VXA-2 single unit drive?

Is there a link to a mac driver for Firewire VXA-2 drives for Retrospect 6.1?

Yep, got one myself (SCSI), works fine with an ATTO UL4D on our xServe.

Whose drive? (Exabyte/Tandberg? Some other version?) Is it one of the supported drives?

Retrospect supported VXA drives

Not if you don't provide more information, such as the version of Retrospect 6 (6.x.x) and the version of the Retrospect Driver Update ("RDU" 6.x.x.x). Some versions had issues. The Retrospect version and RDU version print in the Retrospect log each time Retrospect launches.

Yes, it's the "RDU". The complete RDU version history, with links to all the older versions of RDU, is here:

Retrospect Macintosh RDU Version History

The most current Retrospect Macintosh RDU (6.1.15.101) and the most current Retrospect Macintosh 6.1 update (6.1.230) are available here:

Retrospect 6.1 update downloads

Hope this helps,

Russ
