bradrellinger
Hello - Retrospect 8 has a system requirement of 10.5.5 for the server and client. Are there any plans to support earlier versions of 10.5? Most of our servers are running 10.5.3 due to some AFP bugs in later versions. Thanks Edited June 29, 2009 by Guest
Mayoff
You may not understand the system requirements correctly. 1) Retrospect 8.0 has 3 parts now --Retrospect Console (User interface for main software) --Retrospect Engine which performs the actual backup). Engine computer would normally have your local backup device/tape drive attached. --Retrospect Client installed on each workstation and server on the network that you need to back up. 2) A breakdown of the system requirements is found at: http://kb.dantz.com/article.asp?article=9707&p=2 3) The Retrospect Client software can be an OS X workstation or server running 10.3.9, 10.4.11, or 10.5.5 or later Edited March 23, 2009 by Guest
bradrellinger
I think I am understanding them perfectly. 10.5.5. or later would indicate, to me, that 10.5.0, 10.5.1, 10.5.2, 10.5.3, and 10.5.4 are not supported. Is this the case?
Mayoff
Backup of those systems should work but testing of full system restores has not yet been tested under those configurations so we are not listing them as fully supported. You can install the client on those systems and if you see errors, feel free to report them in the bug report section of the forum
CallMeDave
I think I am understanding them perfectly. Your original post made clear that at the time you made it, you did not understand the requirements; "Retrospect 8 has a system requirement of 10.5.5 for the server and client." This is incorrect, as Robin pointed out; client machines are quite happy with older versions of OS X. Dave
Mayoff
The 10.5.5 requirement was based on what has officially been tested. You can try 10.5.3, we just have not officially tested it.
CallMeDave
"Retrospect 8 has a system requirement of 10.5.5 for the server and client." Upon re-reading, perhaps you intended to refer to the server and the [color:red]console[/color]. That might explain the confusion. bradrellinger
I meant earlier versions of 10.5 (Leopard), for the server or client. Specifically 10.5.3, 10.5.4.
Mayoff
No, the new Retrospect Client software has not been officially tested on 10.5.0 to 10.5.4. We do not expect problems but to be safe we suggest 10.5.5, which has been officially tested.
