ddiman
I have Small Business Server Premium 7.6.123, Driver and Hotfix version 7.6.2.101 running on a Windows SBS 2003 SP2 server. I'm connecting to a Windows Vista workstation which is running the Retrospect Client version 7.6.107. Retrospect on the server believes there are no sofware updates available, and 7.6.107 is the latest windows client version that I see on the website. All backups for this client machine fail with the following set of errors: Can't back up Removable Storage Manager, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up COM+ Class Registration database, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up WMI Repository, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up registry, error -517 (backup client is busy) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS3\Application Data\Retrospect\RtrExec.dir\Exec-1\State\MetaInfo\writer0002\comp0000\file0004": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) 1/20/2009 12:43:10 PM: Snapshot stored, 50.9 MB 1/20/2009 12:43:33 PM: Comparing Local Disk (C:) on DMD-HPWS Can't initialize source, error -517 (backup client is busy) 1/20/2009 12:43:34 PM: Execution incomplete Remaining: 2790 files, 16.5 GB Completed: 0 files, zero KB Any thoughts? I saw a recent post with this issue backing up a Windows 2008 server, but I don't have Windows 2008 in the mix anywhere. The client machine is running Vista with the all the latest MS updates. I have two identical HP workstations running Windows XP and the same backup client version which back up without these errors. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! -Dan
Mayoff
Have you tried to restart the client computer?
ddiman
Yes - I have rebooted it. I did so last night, after I posted the message, and the backup succeeded, but with the following error messages: Can't back up Removable Storage Manager, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up COM+ Class Registration database, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up WMI Repository, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up registry, error -517 (backup client is busy) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS3\Application Data\Retrospect\RtrExec.dir\Exec-1\State\MetaInfo\writer0006\comp0000\file0004": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) 1/20/2009 8:39:47 PM: Snapshot stored, 200.8 MB 1/20/2009 8:40:27 PM: Comparing Local Disk (C:) on DMD-HPWS 1/20/2009 9:05:04 PM: 5 execution errors Completed: 1946 files, 10.9 GB Performance: 399.7 MB/minute (355.4 copy, 456.9 compare) Duration: 01:32:04 (00:36:17 idle/loading/preparing) I guess it worked, but the errors are a little alarming. And I just have to reboot my workstation regularly? Is this a known issue that will be addressed, or? Thanks for posting! -D
ddiman
Oh - and this morning, it ran again at its regularaly scheduled time, and failed again: - 1/21/2009 11:00:00 AM: Copying Local Disk (C:) on DMD-HPWS Can't back up Removable Storage Manager, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up COM+ Class Registration database, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up WMI Repository, error -517 (backup client is busy) Can't back up registry, error -517 (backup client is busy) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS3\Application Data\Retrospect\RtrExec.dir\Exec-1\State\MetaInfo\writer0000\comp0000\file0004": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) 1/21/2009 11:48:26 AM: Snapshot stored, 48.9 MB 1/21/2009 11:48:48 AM: Comparing Local Disk (C:) on DMD-HPWS Can't initialize source, error -517 (backup client is busy) 1/21/2009 11:48:49 AM: Execution incomplete Remaining: 1365 files, 9.1 GB Completed: 0 files, zero KB Performance: 242.1 MB/minute (242.2 copy, 0.0 compare) Duration: 00:48:47 (00:10:32 idle/loading/preparing) This is a after a fresh re-boot last night. It doesn't seem quite right to require a freshly-rebooted machine in order to get a backup! :content:
ddiman
Any feedback from the powerful folks on the forum? It's still happening. I have a SQL server on this workstation - I don't intend to re-boot it every night in order to get backups to work. Should I submit this as a bug, or is it already in the queue waiting to be worked? Is there a place I can get a sense of a timeline?
