jaffaz32
Hi. We have had a Xserve G5 Os 10.4.11 which has been running a HP Ultrium 960 for some time now which all works well. So we know the Scsi Card works with Retrospect. However we have decided to upgrade our tape drive to a HP Ultrium 1840. We have rebooted both the tape drive and the Xserve. The Xserve can see the tape drive but Retrospect does not detect it. We have installed the latest version of Retrospect 6.1.230 and Driver update 6.1.15.101 and Retrospect still can not detect the tape drive although the Xserve can see it. We are using the same scsi card and cable which worked fine on the HP Ultrium 960. We have 2 Ultriums 1840 and i have tried both incase it was a faulty unit and either of them were detected in Retrospect. I have also set the new 1840 drive with the same Scsi ID as the 960. Any Ideas? Edited January 5, 2009 by Guest
rhwalker
So we know the Scsi Card works with Retrospect. No, not completely true. Any Ideas? Not if you won't say what SCSI card you have. If it's the Apple Dual-Channel SCSI Card (really, a rebranded LSI 22320 SCSI Card), that could be your problem. Been there, done that, with our Xserve. If you don't have an ATTO UL4D (or UL4S) in your PPC Xserve, that could be your problem. If you do, check your firmware and driver for the card. jaffaz32
Thanks for your reply. We have a ATTO UL4D rom revision 1.4.2F1 Edited January 5, 2009 by Guest
rhwalker
We have a ATTO UL4D rom revision 1.4.2F1 The ROM is only used during booting. What driver do you have? The Xserve can see the tape drive but Retrospect does not detect it. ... Retrospect still can not detect the tape drive although the Xserve can see it. Unclear what you mean here. Does the HP Ultrium 1840 show up in the ATTO Configuration Tool on its channel of the UL4D? Does the HP Ultrium 1840 show up in the Apple System Profile tree that is made at boot time? If not, there is no hope for Retrospect to see it if it is not in the device tree. Are there any other devices (such as disk drives) other than the tape drive on this channel of the UL4D? jaffaz32
Thanks.... I am now running my first backup on our new drive. Got in early this morning so i could update the firmware and driver for the Scsi card so i could reboot the Xserve with minimul disruption and is now working a treat.
