Does disaster recovery CD wipe the drive?

Windows XP SP2, Retrospect Pro 7.6: Encountered a registry error: Windows screen comes up but then OS won't load.

I have a year-old disaster recovery CD. I have current backup sets on both internal and external secondary drives. Catalog files are on the boot drive.

1) If I attempt to use the disaster recovery CD to install the temporary OS and do a restore, does this wipe the drive on which the failed OS is installed?

2) I did not create a new disaster recovery CD after installing a new video card: Will this matter? The Retrospect documentation says the hardware configs must be the same.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
