vtrasikis
I have a NAS device attached and after I upgraded the PC from win2k to win-xp and now Retrospect takes over 2 hours to get out of the "preparing to execute" phase of the backup. When it actually starts to back up, it only take 8 minutes. Any ideas why it takes so long for that one phase?
Mayoff
Is the NAS the source or the destination?
vtrasikis
The source is drive C on the PC and the NAS device is the destination.
vtrasikis
Any suggestions?????? The backups are now taking almost 3 hours to complete, well, the "preparing to execute" step takes almost 3 hours and the actual backup is only 10 minutes! Mayoff
Is it faster if you turn off Open File Backup options? Sometimes VSS Service can slow things down. How much free space is on the C: of the backup server?
vtrasikis
To answer your questions, it seems like that back up is now running faster, but why would VSS service take so long??? As for free space, the C: drive on that PC has 93GB free, is that enough????
Mayoff
Yes, that is more then enough free space.
vtrasikis
So any idea why with the VSS turned on, it takes so long??? There is another win-xp PC that is also running Retrospect, and it doesn't have that same problem. Any other suggestions???
Mayoff
Sorry I don't know. It could be the computer is low on resources, maybe a conflict with something else installed on the computer. Windows is "being bad" and slowing things down.
vtrasikis
You stated low on resources, what resources would you be referring to??? Is there a way to log everything to see what retrospect is doing that it is running so long???
