Steve3
Hi all, Is there any way to tell Retrospect 4.3 or 5 under OS 9 to not stop on media errors? I have numerous DDS3 tapes from 2002 and earlier that I would like to retrieve all the content from and move to different media. The restore works fine until I encounter a 206 media error, which halts the retrieval. I can restart the restore with an exception to omit the file it failed on, but with no idea how many 206 errors are hiding in these vintage tapes, I could need to add an unmanageable number of exceptions. Mayoff
206 is a fatal error. I do not know of a way to disable the notification for this error.
Steve3
Would running the tape set through verify produce a list of files that won't come back, which I could then omit?
Mayoff
A verify will probably report a 206 error at the same spot every time if the tape is bad, but it may not display the file name.
Steve3
So when verify hits a 206 error, does it continue, or is the verify operation ended? (I'm testing it myself, but I have to get a few hours into the restore to find out)
Mayoff
I believe it will stop in most cases.
