thefusa
Hi, I wish to know how to backup the system state of my windows server (configuration, registry, active directory,ect..ect...) I've checked the flag in the option uder my script and I add the Windows folder in the backup. But when I try to restore it I can't see it. I see olny the windows folder without the option of system state. How can I find the procedure to backup my system state correctly? thanks
MRIS
If you have the "Retrospect Professional" product then you cannot backup servers ("system state") with it. For backing up servers you will need to use a sever version of Retrospect, such as Retrospect Single Server. Please read this page: http://www.emcinsignia.com/products/smb/retroforwin/comparison/
thefusa
I know...I have Retrospect 7.6. Probably I've post my question to the wrong Forum Index...? With retrospect 7.6 I can backup system state right? How can I do it?
MRIS
The system state is included by default when you backup the C: drive. You can tell the system state is included because the drive icon has a small clock or something on it, compared with other drives. The backup options also have a tickbox that says system state, just make sure it is ticked, which it is by default.
thefusa
Ok. So I MUST backup all drive C in order to backup the system state: It's impossibile,(if I understand) to backup ONLY the system state of the Server. Right?
Mayoff
To do only the registry, select the C: disk and change the selecting from All files to No files.
DennyP
The system state is included by default when you backup the C: drive. You can tell the system state is included because the drive icon has a small clock or something on it, compared with other drives. The backup options also have a tickbox that says system state, just make sure it is ticked, which it is by default. My c: drive does have the icon on it that you mention. However my Backup Option screen does not have any system state options on it to select. I have Retrospect Express 7.5.370. How do I backup the registry so I can create the disaster recovery backup? MRIS
I guess the simplified GUI of the express version doesn't have this option. I would expect that it would be included, especially since you can see the icon as you said. I guess you could test it as follows: 1. Perform a backup. 2. Change your desktop wallpaper to something else. 3. Perform a restore. If the wallpaper changes back to how it was then the system state is included.
