svodriver
I have several mailboxes that are not backing up. This just recently started, although the users are able to use their accounts without any apparent issues. I have done the Exchange database integrity checks and utilities, all come out fine. Last night I ran the windows scan disk on the server drives, then tried to re-run Friday night's backups, and I still received the error. The server is a Windows 2003 Standard edition server (not a domain controller), 4GB RAM, Exchange Server 2003, using Retrospect 7.5.xxx (I'm not connected to the server right now, but the latest updates have been applied) with the Exchange Agent. It is backing up to a hard disk more than large enough for the backup. Here is an excerpt of the log (user names have been edited): - 6/1/2008 2:43:28 AM: Copying Jxxx, Sxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 2:43:29 AM: Copying Jxxx, Kxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 2:43:30 AM: Copying Kxxx, Rxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 2:43:30 AM: Copying Kxxx, Pxxx Scanning incomplete, error -3405 (unknown) - 6/1/2008 2:43:31 AM: Copying Kxxx, Jxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 2:43:31 AM: Copying Kxxx, Cxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 2:43:32 AM: Copying Lxxx, Mxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 2:43:32 AM: Copying Lxxx, Txxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 2:43:33 AM: Copying Lxxx, Cxxx 6/1/2008 2:44:03 AM: Snapshot stored, 316 KB 6/1/2008 2:44:04 AM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 529 files, 27.9 MB Performance: 98.2 MB/minute Duration: 00:00:31 (00:00:14 idle/loading/preparing) - 6/1/2008 2:44:04 AM: Copying Lxxx, Sxxx Scanning incomplete, error -3405 (unknown) - 6/1/2008 2:44:05 AM: Copying Lxxx, Sxxx 6/1/2008 2:44:10 AM: Snapshot stored, 18 KB 6/1/2008 2:44:11 AM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 24 files, 6,425 KB Performance: 125.4 MB/minute Duration: 00:00:06 (00:00:02 idle/loading/preparing) As you can tell by the initials of the users, these accounts are in the middle of the run... You can disregard the -3405 error, I just read another post on how to clear that one up... Thanks in advance. Rick
Mayoff
I would unlicense and relicense exchange in Retrospect and try again. What are you using for the authentication method?
svodriver
I just did that after I posted this in order to fix the issue with the -3405 (deleted exchange accounts), and thought i'd give it another run to see if it helped. I'll post the results later today... I'll have to verify the authentication method, but I believe it is using the domain admin account... Thanks for the advice. Mayoff
Domain Admin account is not the correct way to configure Retrospect with Exchange. Mailbox Requirements as shown in the KB
svodriver
The re-license of the exchange didn't correct the problem. The server crashed on the next backup attempt, so I restarted and tried again. This time, I got the same error on different mailboxes: - 6/1/2008 3:15:23 PM: Copying Bxxx, Txxxx 6/1/2008 3:15:25 PM: Snapshot stored, 10 KB 6/1/2008 3:15:26 PM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 12 files, 74 KB Performance: 4.3 MB/minute Duration: 00:00:03 (00:00:02 idle/loading/preparing) - 6/1/2008 3:15:26 PM: Copying Bxxx, Dxxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 3:15:27 PM: Copying Cxxx, Sxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 3:15:27 PM: Copying Cxxx, Jxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 3:15:28 PM: Copying Cxxx, Jxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 3:15:28 PM: Copying Dxxx, Kxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 3:15:29 PM: Copying Dxxx, Kxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 3:15:29 PM: Copying Dxxx, Txxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 3:15:30 PM: Copying Dxxx, Jxxx Scanning incomplete, error -1121 (unknown file system) - 6/1/2008 3:15:30 PM: Copying Dxxx, Exxx 6/1/2008 3:16:01 PM: Snapshot stored, 768 KB 6/1/2008 3:16:02 PM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 1296 files, 36.5 MB Performance: 109.2 MB/minute Duration: 00:00:32 (00:00:11 idle/loading/preparing) - 6/1/2008 3:16:02 PM: Copying Dxxx, Nxxx 6/1/2008 3:17:26 PM: Snapshot stored, 1,273 KB 6/1/2008 3:17:27 PM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 2152 files, 123.8 MB Performance: 125.8 MB/minute Duration: 00:01:25 (00:00:25 idle/loading/preparing) - 6/1/2008 3:17:28 PM: Copying Dxxx, Mxxx 6/1/2008 3:21:05 PM: Snapshot stored, 2,903 KB 6/1/2008 3:21:07 PM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 4916 files, 386.1 MB Performance: 123.8 MB/minute Duration: 00:03:39 (00:00:31 idle/loading/preparing) The crash wrote an event to the assert_log.utx file, I'm not sure how to post that file... I do have it configured to use the domain admin account, and to "Run in Terminal Services session" If that's incorrect, what account should I use? svodriver
Disregard the question about which account to use, I eventually saw the link you posted. I have made that change and will try running another backup... Rick
svodriver
I made the changes to the account and ran another backup to test. It failed with the same error on 9 different mailboxes. 8 were consecutive, and the 9th was about 20 mailboxes later. I went back through the operation log and found the first instance of this type of error was on the 1st of April. After looking a little more, I found the previous three backups had failed completely. the last thing that ran successfully way the update from 7.5.387 to 7.5.502. There was another update for the drivers in early April, but they didn't seem to correct the problem. I went in a few minutes ago and removed the Exchange license and re-applied it. I figured it couldn't hurt to try it after I made the changes to the user account. I'll let it run at the scheduled time this evening and post how it goes... svodriver
The backup is still failing on several accounts with the -1121 error. To recap: I was getting the error after updating to 7.5.508 from 7.5.387, and the driver updates from 7.5.13.xxx to 7.5.14.102 after the program update didn't correct the problem. I removed the exchange license, then reapplied it, and ran another backup, which still failed. I rebooted the PC and tried again, but it still failed. I had the backup configured to use the Domain Administrator account to run, and was directed to correct that. Once that was done, I ran another backup that still has the errors. For any other program, I would uninstall the application and reinstall, but I'm not familiar enough with Retrospect to know if the preference/configuration files are removed when you uninstall, and if not, where they are stored so I can manually delete them. Anyone care to enlighten me? Thanks, Rick
Mayoff
Uninstall and reinstall does not remove any Retrospect settings. Have you tried calling tech support to work on the issue? That will be the fastest way to handle this issue.
pvanmossel
I'm wondering if a solution to this problem was ever found. I am experiencing this error too on a daily basis - after years of running fine. The message appears randomly against different Exchange mailboxes every night (sometimes more or less, sometimes the same mailboxes but not necessarily. This problem materialized about week ago after updating to 7.5.512 in an effort to resolve another exchange problem which materialized. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
