zerogny
Have been running Retrospect for a long, long time and it's always worked flawlessly. A few bad discs here and there but nothing too crazy. We recently set up a new server with the following specs: Mac mini Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHz 1 GB Memory (have 2 GB, just not installed yet) Drive Stats: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06: Firmware Revision: Q614 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive) Cache: 2000 KB Reads DVD: Yes CD-Write: -R, -RW DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO Software: Retrospect Server 6.1.138 Retrospect Driver Update, version 6.1.14.101 So here's the deal: We have data on the server as well as an external Drive. We set up an easyScript to alternate and proceeded with the backup (Fresh). This covered approx. 36 DVD+RWs and took about a week (not switching overnight and forgetting to switch a disc) for each A + B backup set. First go around we used Philips DVD+RW 1-4x write speed (which worked in the old G4 server), then moved to Memorex DVD+RW 4x, then to RiData DWD+RW 8x. ALL of these media would have problems (the RiData was the worst) most of the errors were 101 and 102 errors. Usually 3 out of every 10 discs where shot. Sometimes I;d be asked to reinsert for the SAME disc, other times, it would ask for the NEXT disc (even though it still threw the error). Errors: These crop up what seems randomly. The bulk of the errros are 102. Device trouble: “1-Server Backup Aâ€, error 100 (device rejected command). Trouble writing: “30-Server Backup B†(2134638592), error 102 (trouble communicating). Device trouble: “31-Server Backup Bâ€, error 105 (unexpected end of data). Retrospect also takes an extremely long time to boot up.
