bbowler
I recently got a pioneer dvr112d which retrospect recognizes, but it seems (overly?) sensitive to media. For example, 3 or 4 different TDK DVD+RW DVDs (2 different "models" also) report "error -100" and refused to work. A maxell dvd+rw works just fine. Are "the same" media from different manufacturers really that different? Are there some that are better than others (obviously for me some maxell are better than all TDK, but I don't know if that's "universal"). Thanks! eppinizer
Bruce, This is a known problem and will be fixed with the next RDU (expect this update in the very near future). Also, we will be including official compatibility with the DVR-112D as certification was finished very recently. -Jeff
bbowler
Knowing full well how reluctant companies are to predict when something is going to be released, is the "soon to be released RDU" Days away? Weeks away? Months away? or (the expected) "we'd prefer not to say" :-)
Mayoff
It should be weeks, but I don't know for sure.
bbowler
Out of curiosity, "what" is being fixed by the soon to be released RDU? I notice that the 112D is already supported (support added in 7.5.12.103), so is the RDU specifically fixing the media compatibility issue? Just want to make sure... If that's what's being fixed, I'll wait and try my TDK DVD's after the RDU comes out. If not, I'll go and buy some maxell disks.
eppinizer
so is the RDU specifically fixing the media compatibility issue? Yes and no, RDU's fix multiple compatibility issues, along with adding device support, and other small bug fixes. The issue that you are experiencing does not just apply with TDK media, but other brands as well. I suggest waiting for the RDU release because your problem will most likely fixed. eppinizer
Bruce, The new RDU 7.5.14.102 has been posted on our website, http://www.emcinsignia.com/supportupdates/updates/ Try to get back to me and let me know how things go. Good luck!
bbowler
It works but (there's always a but :-). In the prior RDU, The "Erasing..." phase when a new DVD was put in was fairly quick. With this RDU it's much longer (~15-20 minutes). Not a real problem, but annoying.
Mayoff
This is normal. Erasing of optical media with Retrospect can take 30 minutes or more with some drives/media types.
