improved support backing up to removable cartridges. Retrospect 7.5.508 adds improved support for backing up to autoloaders that use removable cartridges such as REV and RDX. In improving this support Retrospect has reintroduced the backup set type "Removable Disk". When using a "Removable Disk" backup set Retrospect will erase and name the removable disk prior to using it as a backup destination. If a disk is used for a Removable Disk backup set only Retrospect data should be stored on the disk.

Exchange Server 2007 support. Backing up local and client Exchange 2007 Servers is supported in this release.

Recovery Storage Groups (RSG) support. Retrospect 7.5.508 now supports restoring to the Microsoft Exchange Recovery Storage Group (RSG) for Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2007. For more information on using Retrospect to backup and restore the RSG on Exchange Server 2003 and 2007, please see the EMC Retrospect Knowledgebase.

Windows Server 2008 support. Local and client backups of Windows Server 2008 is supported.

Stopping scripts: The Retrospect toolbar includes a button that makes it easy to stop all current operations. The icon for this button has changed from a red circle with an X in it to a pause symbol. When the option to stop all operations has been selected the button will flash the Retrospect logo.

Mayoff,

I'm running 7.5.508 on Vista x64 and yes, I know it's not supported but I can get decent backups of my data if not the system itself. Using 7.5.387 (I think the last version was) I was getting 49 errors and 2 warnings on an average complete backup with 0.5GB of data not backed up, with 508 I now get 2 minor errors, no warnings and a complete data backup. Is this a sign that Vista x64 support is on it's way?? Here's hoping.......

At this time Vista 64 is not technically supported, although .508 will probably work with it okay. We made a lot of changes to include support.

We hope to do more testing and announce support in a few months.

I would be wary of full system restores though, they can end up a bit funky right now.

Oh, and just out of curiosity, have you got any 1017 errors when backing up your system using .508?

Yes, I wouldn't rely on it for a full system restore just yet, have that covered by another product.

I can't see any 1017 errors with .508, the only ones I get now are:

MapError: unknown Windows error 193

W2dbComRegOp: CoCreateInstance failed, winerr -2147024703, error -1001

Can't back up COM+ Class Registration database, error -1001 (unknown Windows OS error)

RegGetSystemRegPath: not in windows folder "\device\harddiskvolume1\boot\bcd "

Can't access registry for "S-1-5-21-617958845-4010613110-1648738748-500", error -1101 (file/directory not found)

Stephen,

I was mistaken when asking if you had seen 1017's while backing up. 1017's are restore errors. All of the errors you received are 64bit specific and are being worked on.

Data backup should be fine for 64bit, or at least I haven't found any problems with it yet.

Actually a 1017 is not a restore error. MANY users see them during backup. It all depends on exactly what is written in the log.

64 Bit Vista is not supported by EMC at this time.

The 1017's are with Vista 32bit as well, not just 64bit, and it is a both Backup and Restore issue. I have received them mainly when restoring system files from a backup with no errors.

The errors that Stephen had,

Quote:

MapError: unknown Windows error 193

W2dbComRegOp: CoCreateInstance failed, winerr -2147024703, error -1001

Can't back up COM+ Class Registration database, error -1001 (unknown Windows OS error)

RegGetSystemRegPath: not in windows folder "\device\harddiskvolume1\boot\bcd "

Can't access registry for "S-1-5-21-617958845-4010613110-1648738748-500", error -1101 (file/directory not found)

Are the errors that I received while testing on 64bit.
