BACKING UP TO MAXTOR DRIVE WITHIN A NETWORK

Recommended Posts

I want to set up what seems to me a complicated network. I have a Powerbook G4, ibook G4 both connected connected wirelessly to a Linksys WRT54g wireless router which is extended from an airport express base station.

I also have a G3 Powermac connected via ethernet to the Linksys router.

I have purchased a Maxtor one touch external drive which i want to have my entire network backed up to and able to access.

The most convenient way to set it up would be for the Maxtor to be connected via firewire to the Powerbook G3.

How do I set up a network to allow all my macs to access each other and back up to the external drive. I want to keep most of my files, music and pics on the external drive to free up hard drive space on the laptops.

The laptops have Panther 10.3.9, the G3 has OS10.1.5.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Unfortunately it's not possible to use the retrospect (Express) that comes with maxtor to back up over the network, you'll have to upgrade at least to retrospect DESKTOP in order for you to back up up to three computers(workstations).

Regards,
