edmundp
Hi, I'm currently in a situation where I have to recover a person's mailbox because of some deleted items. Note that these items are older than the 30 day deletion retention period in exchange. With the exchange backup, we been only performing the database backup and we have circular logging enabled on the exchange server mailbox store(These are 2 issues that we are managing to fix now). We do have a number spare resources at hand, so the backup can be restored on another server if recommended. So I have a few questions to ask: Can retrospect 7.5 restore to a production exchange server and not overwrite the existing database, what would the procedures be for this? Does circular logging effect the restore, would I have to perform a repair or transaction replay? When restoring, do I implement the Microsoft Recovery Storage Group? I would appreciate any suggests Thanks
nekr0phage
Hello, If you have only backed up the storage group, you will only be able to restore the storage group. You will need to set up a parallel domain and restore to a running Exchange server. Here is a KB article that roughly covers that scenario: http://kb.dantz.com/article.asp?article=7926&p=
