5.6 server on winME fails XP client backup after 300MB

Recommended Posts

Trying to backup XP Home on Laptop using client software current version. Consistantly between 100 and 300 MB into backup network connection is lost and server 5.6 states it is retrying ....

Have tried several directories only and same thing happens. Have tried crossover cable, same thing happens. Client window on laptop states in use by backup script. Then network traffic stops. tape motion stops, retrying is displayed, error 519 is recorded in log after a few minutes.

Please find below a portion of the log file. Does this tell you anything about what is happening, it certainly doesn't shine any light on the subject for me.

Thanks for your time

Thank you for your response but I had already done all the suggested troubleshooting on that tech note.

After weeks of fighting with the retrospect software and both my laptop and desktop pc hardware(4 network cards later), I found that a simple compatability change on the client exe program under properties allowed full and complete backup of my laptop.

I changed it's compatability to Windows98/ME.
