.cat file being built in wrong location?

Recommended Posts

I use an external hard drive for backup using Retrospect on the Macintosh platform.

When I rebuild my catalog file, Retrospect places the .cat file next to the Backup Set on the external hard drive. I thought the .cat file was supposed to be in the Documents folder of my Mac's hard drive? If so, How do it get it there? Drag and drop? Is there a setting in Retrospect that will do this?

Thanks!

The catalog files that default to your Documents folder are the catalogs for backup sets on removable media (tapes, CD, removable disks).

A catalog file with a .cat extension belongs to a File Backup Set. File Backup Sets are designed to have the catalog and data files residing on the same volume, in the same folder, so Retrospect is placing the catalog where it belongs.
