lunadesign Posted October 10, 2015 Report Share Posted October 10, 2015 I'm running Retrospect Desktop 9.5.3.103 and I just got the following warning for the first time during a backup: Writer "ASR Writer" backup failed, error -3050 ( VSS reported an error). Scillonian Posted October 10, 2015 Report Share Posted October 10, 2015 Does this error occur on every backup? Retrospect is letting you know that during the System State part of the backup the Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) had a problem with the ASR Writer component. To try and diagnose what the problem is you will need to look in the Windows Event Viewer logs. In general this error will only be a problem if you need to do a restore which involves restoring the System State (e.g. Disaster Recovery Restore).
