like2backup
Is anyone successfully using the Panasonic SW-5582 or other Blu-ray drives for Retrospect?
Lennart_T
What is your reason for still using optical drives?
like2backup
Archival, I want something that will last years, won't get damaged if lightning strikes, and isn't directly subject to mechanical failure.
Mayoff
In 4 or 5 years or whatever time period, chances are you won't be able to find an optical drive that can read those disks.... In general optical support is really being phased out of Retrospect. The only supported drives are at http://www.retrospect.com/devices
like2backup
For quite some time that page has contained the row: Product name -- Manufacturers -- Interfaces -- Media Types -- Mac Panasonic SW-5582 -- Panasonic -- ATAPI -- Blu-ray -- In Process I'd love to know a little more about "In process"
Mayoff
We started testing, but I don't think it passed the final qualification on the Mac
Lennart_T
Archival, I want something that will last years, won't get damaged if lightning strikes, and isn't directly subject to mechanical failure. Then I suggest using tapes. As a second choice, hard drives or SSD drives. Disconnected, of course.
