happyagnostic
I have roughly 3 Terabytes I need to backup daily, I understand the instant scan can improve performance, but it usually averages out to the low 900MB/minute. Is there a way to improve Retrospects performance or is this as good as it gets? twickland
This may not apply in your case, but there is a bug in Retrospect 12 that often causes it to report incorrect backup performance in the log. When calculating performance, it's best to do it yourself, based on the amount of data and the elapsed time.
roberts
Retrospect is very cpu-dependent, you may find that a new i7 mac mini can backup faster than your Xserve, especially if you require a lot of file compression.
Lennart_T
Mac Mini is no longer sold as a quad-core. All you can get now is a dual-core CPU. So get a 2012 instead of a 2014 Mac Mini. http://www.macworld.co.uk/review/mac-desktops/2014-mac-mini-v-2012-model-comparison-review-specs-which-best-3590185/
Maser
Instant Scan only reduces the amount of time needed to identify the files that need backing up -- nothing about the throughput.
